I think it was Richard Dawkins who pointed out that every serious candidate for President we have ever had has claimed some religion. It is virtually a statistical impossibility that they have all actually been theists because approximately 10 to 20 percent of the population is atheist (depending on how you define the term) and the higher up the education bracket you go the higher the percentage of atheists. Every candidate has to pay lip service to God or he would be unelectable. I say “he” because I think Hillary is already unelectable (or so I hope).
He was paraphrasing from the Declaration of Independence (“endowed by thier Creator with certain inalienable rights”). It’s pretty safe for a Republican candidate to side with Jefferson.
basic rights from God?
