Obama Campaign Calls Racists Republican

April 25th, 2008

I had to do a double take — did David Plouffe really say that?

I mean the vast, vast majority of voters who would not vote for Barack Obama in November based on race are probably firmly in John McCain’s camp already.

Got that? He didn’t call Republicans racist, but he did say that all racists are Republican.

This is a smear. There is nothing that makes Democrats immune to racists. When it comes to organized racism, the Democrats are the historic kings — does the word “Dixiecrat” ring a bell? Anyone look at Robert Byrd’s history lately? Did everyone just forget that the KKK was the terrorist arm of the Democratic Party in Reconstruction? The same Democratic Party that tried to surrender the Civil War to the South? Has it been completely whitewashed that Al Gore Sr. and Robert Byrd voted against the Civil Rights Acts?

I’ve known actual, honest to goodness racists, in East Texas and the hills of Kentucky and Tennessee. Every one of them has been poor, uneducated, unsuccessful… and die hard, Yellow Dog Democrats.

Whoopi

April 25th, 2008

Whoopi Goldberg is letting her inner racist out.

GOLDBERG: It’s a very- and I say this with a huge amount of love. It’s a very white way to look at it.

HASSELBECK: What do you mean?

GOLDBERG: And I, I’m saying this with love, so I understand, because it’s never.

HASSELBECK: Let me take off my “white” goggles.

SHEPHERD: You can’t. I wish you could. You can’t.

GOLDBERG: But you can’t. That’s what I’m trying to explain. This, for us, is totally- it’s not an experience I can explain to you. I can’t explain why black folks are saying “oh my God.”

I guess it is OK to express racist views as long as “say it with love.” Whoopi apparently thinks that it is absolutely impossible for Hasselbeck to see her viewpoint because of the color of her skin. This is infuriating.

We’ve heard this shit before. “You can’t let negros go free — they don’t understand how to handle themselves.” It’s the same shit warmed over and served from the other side of the equation.
I can’t think of a bigger insult to throw at a black person than to say, “Well, of course you think ‘X’, that’s the black way to look at it.” Even if I say it with love. Apparently Whoppi thinks that all white people are born racist. That’s irony.

Suppose there was a race, between a white man and a black man. Suppose that black people split about 50-50, but white people voted 90%+ for the white man. If I heard that, I would think that the white people doing the voting were racist.

And I would be right. And telling black people, “oh, that’s a very black way to look at it” would be bullshit.

Biased Much?

April 24th, 2008

How did this idiot think this was going to turn out?

A congressional candidate is defending his speech to a group celebrating the anniversary of Adolf Hitler’s birth, saying he appeared simply because he was asked.

You know what you do when a bunch of Nazis — real life, honest to goodness Nazis — ask you to come and celebrate Hitler’s birthday with them? You say no.

“I’ll speak before any group that invites me,” Zirkle said Monday. “I’ve spoken on an African-American radio station in Atlanta.”

Uh… how is a radio station “African-American?” And anyways, talking to black people does not give you a “celebrate a mass murderer’s birthday with a bunch of racist, terroristic thugs and get out of it free” card. Speaking to black people is not some brave move across the aisle. It is what any honest American does every day.

He compared his speech to other politicians appearing at Bob Jones University.

Bob Jones University is not a Nazi organization. Hyperbole aside, regardless of your opinion, I don’t think anyone sane can equate the two. Obviously, you are not sane.

He said he did not know much about the neo-Nazi group and that his intention was to talk on his concern about “the targeting of young white women and for pornography and prostitution.”

“I don’t know much about this particular racist shitpile, but I did intend to spew a bunch of racist bullshit conspiracies.”

But here is the best part — CBS’s spin on it. (My emphasis)

Tony Zirkle, who is seeking the Republican nomination in northern Indiana’s 2nd District, stood in front of a painting of Hitler, next to people wearing swastika armbands and with a swastika flag in the background for the speech to the American National Socialist Workers Party in Chicago on Sunday.

Got that? He isn’t the GOP candidate — he’s a fringe lunatic who is trying to get the nomination. How is that going for him?

Local Republicans condemned Zirkle’s appearance.

“I cannot believe that in 2008 anyone could think so backward,” Luke Puckett, another 2nd District GOP candidate, said in a written response.

Chris Riley, Republican Party chairman for St. Joseph County, said he found Zirkle’s comments “nauseating and repulsive.”

But what was CBS’s headline?

House GOP Candidate Spoke At Hitler Event

Candidate For Indiana District Defends Speech At American National Socialist Workers Party Event Celebrating Nazi’s Birthday

Not, “Candidate” like a lot of other news agencies. Not “Candidate seeking GOP nomination.” They went with “GOP Candidate”. Because, you know, once he’s spoken to a bunch of skinhead fucktards, he’s got the nomination sewn up. He’s not the GOP candidate, CBS, and the local GOP won’t allow him to be if there is any legal way to prevent it. (And if they can’t prevent it, I expect them to campaign against him.)

Doing My Own Waffling

April 22nd, 2008

Hmm  This puts my earlier post in a different light.

Because, as Jay Newton-Small at Time’s Swampland explains, Obama hasn’t given a press conference in 10 days and the reporters had no other opportunity to ask him.

Earlier, I said, “even if he has to answer questions on both sides of the meal.”  You know what?  If you refuse to answer before or after the meal, you get questions asked during the meal.  Don’t hide behind the waffle.

I think I’ve come around to The Fat Guy’s position on this one.

Maybe if it was Kerry…

April 21st, 2008

This is a story?

SCRANTON, Pa. – As Sen. Hillary Clinton was preparing to campaign here today, Sen. Barack Obama was meeting with voters at a diner and apparently pretty hungry.

“Why can’t I just eat my waffle?” he said, when asked a foreign policy question by a reporter at the Glider Diner.

Here’s a news flash: no matter how bad a candidate I think Obama is, he is still a human being. As a human, he must consume food to sustain himself, preferably several times a day.

He doesn’t have to answer campaign questions while he does it, even if he has to answer questions on both sides of the meal. Leave the man alone and let him eat.

Plus, waffles are delicious.
