End Abuse of No-Bid Contracts: Barack Obama will end abuse of no-bid contracts by requiring that nearly
all contract orders over $25,000 be competitively awarded.

From today — Obama Administration Steers Lucrative No-Bid Contract for Afghan Work to Dem Donor:

Despite President Obama’s long history of criticizing the Bush administration for “sweetheart deals” with favored contractors, the Obama administration this month awarded a $25 million federal contract for work in Afghanistan to a company owned by a Democratic campaign contributor without entertaining competitive bids, Fox News has learned.

“I would advise that we try to move quickly to coalesce around those elements of the package that people agree on,” he said.

The president said there are “core elements” to the health care legislation that both Republican and Democrats agree on and they must come together to work for comprehensive reform.

Another One Down

But GOP opposition to Southers escalated rapidly after The Washington Post reported that Southers had given Congress and the White House misleading information about incidents two decades ago in which he inappropriately accessed a federal database to obtain information about his estranged wife’s new boyfriend, possibly in violation of privacy laws.

Heeeeey, relax guy, what does privacy matter to the TSA chief?
