Death Star in detail

Because Mimas is mostly round, planetary scientists expected temperatures to vary evenly across the surface. Instead, they found a sharp boundary between warmer temperatures (around 294 degrees below zero Fahrenheit, or 92 Kelvin) and colder temperatures (-320 degrees F, or 77 K). A little warm spot (-310 degrees F, 84 K) was detected around Herschel Crater.

via Cosmic Log.  You know what makes good science?  Being able to make predictions.  The funny thing is, this was predicted by Richard C. Hoagland.  Under the hypothesis that Mimas is an artificial, geodesic structure. Even more interesting is Iapetus, which shows the similar structure, but is magnitudes larger.

Strange things are afoot at the Circle K.

Two Cases of Nekkidness

So this is apparently a big story.  I heard the talking heads on the morning show say, “when there was a naked man on an interstate billboard a couple of weeks ago, there were tons of 911 calls, but in this instance, there was not a single report.”

I can explain that.

The nekkid guy on the highway backed up traffic.  Badu did not.  She was there for a minute or so, got off the road, and things went back to normal.

The 911 calls weren’t bitching about some guy being naked.  They were bitching about the asshat making them late for work.

Thought Exercise

When was the last time you saw a police car on the side of the road and felt safer?

Garland drug officer’s cases re-examined after credibility questioned

“It is extremely rare for police officers to admit they have concerns about a fellow officer, so when these two Garland officers said they had credibility issues with Officer Morrow, quite naturally it gave the district attorney’s office reason to be concerned as well,” said Jamille Bradfield, spokeswoman for the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.

Thank you.  This doesn’t happen often enough.  The two whistleblowers are taking a hell of a risk.

And of course, Internal Affairs investigated all of this and concluded, “move along, nothing to see here.”

Steny Hoyer: Members are at risk

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer is warning that some of his Democratic colleagues are being threatened with violence when they go back to their districts — and he wants Republicans to stand up and condemn the threats.

This should be the response:

Tasers are so safe that if you just point one at a cop, three of them will shoot you dead.

To be clear, I don’t think the problem is that the guy got shot.  The problem is that the police want to use a device on us whenever we even use passive resistance, but will respond with deadly force if you threaten to use it on them.
