Polite Society
Asshat Wolcott takes issue with the adage, “an armed society is a polite society.” He seems to think that the Old West was an exception to the rule. He cites wonders like this:
Maybe I’ve been mistaken all these years. I used to think Japan put a high premium on politeness, protocol, and the fine points of deportment. Those Ozu movies–they must have fooled me.
They did fool you. You missed all the Samurai Swords that all the Samurai were carrying around. You know, the ones they used to execute impolite peasants with? You missed them by about 50 years.
Asshat. Watch less Ozu and more Kurosawa. Ozu’s ass sucks canal water.
I want to execute impolite peasants!!!!!!
Godzilla has a way of drawing people together.
Nothing like a common enemy to make people be nice to each other.
I don’t know Ozu, but since he sucks canal water, fuck him.
Jenn, you ignorant slut.
Watched “Yojimbo” Sunday night. Made me think about changing my name to “Mulberry Field”…
Ozu doesn’t even deserve to drink Kurosawa’s toilet water…
You should catch Sanjuro. There’s a lot more comedy in that one. (If you missed it, Sanjuro is Nipponese for “Mulberry Field”.)
Samurai’s are the shit…
I’ve constantly thought of how much better our society would be if all the fucknuts would actually realize that they are fucknuts and then commit Sepuku out of honor..
Fucking peasants.
Hey, why I gotta be all that?
Pipe down there, champ.
Sigh.
You’re way harsh.
Just because I don’t know some director, you don’t have to get all violent. It’s simply not my cup of tea! Damn, boy.
Phelps, I love you. And I will pay more attention to directors. No, really. I will. No sighing necessary.
Phelps, most of the time I’m with you, but here’s where we part ways: Ozu was a master.
I grant you, Kurosawa was both better, and more rousing, but Ozu was brilliant.
Besides, you should be effing thankful he existed, because without him, you wouldn’t have Kurosawa. Kurosawa’s first film, Sanshiro Sugata, was nearly banned by the war censorship office.
Three guesses as to which director defended it, got it approved, and thus guaranteed that Kurosawa would continue as a director.
At the very least, pay the guy the respect he’s due.
PS — if you’ve not already seen it, check out Sword of Doom.
Jenn, calm down. It is a Saturday Night Live line. Dan Ackroyd to Jane Curtin. Every week. It doesn’t mean anything.
I’ll check it out, Ian. I’m game for anything with Toshiro Mifune in it. Oh, and I just saw Battle Royale. Not bad, but it doesn’t live up to the hype.
I ‘splained the line to her this morning dude. I’ve become something of an interpreter for you.
Phelp, I don’t watch SNL either. Damn, I’m really on your shit list these day’s. But now I know of Ozu’s existance and that you were playing of the names Jenn and Jane. That should count for something shouldn’t it? 😀
Jenn, you are not on my shit list. I an not mad, irritated or peeved by you. It was just a joke.
Calm down.
Phelps! I’ve not been mad or sad or emotional either. Scouts honor! 😀
GODZILLA IS THE SHIT!
it’s both Megadeth and the place out in nevada.. you seem strong enough to support both references..
