Salvaging the Data

What can we learn from the London bombings? I see a wealth of information:

  • Al Qaeda’s command structure has been wrecked from where it was on September 10, 2001. Al Qaeda, pre-Taliban collapse, never claimed attacks. (Doing so simply invites retribution.) This attack was claimed. The attack, compared to 9/11 standards, was small and unsophisticated. This isn’t any consolation to Londoners, and I don’t mean any disrespect. Britain is going to take even a small attack disproportionately compared to America.

Al Qaeda’s base (har har) has shifted from Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan. It is pretty obvious, based on the MO here (attacking busses and transit, using suicide bombs) that the Syria-Iran-North Africa contingency was coordinating this operation. To me, this is more evidence that bin Laden and al-Zawahiri are no longer in control, if they are even alive.

  • The profile for the conspiracy should be pretty clear, even if the authorities won’t acknowledge it. You are looking for 10-15 Muslim males, aged 22-28. They will have British passports, and the leaders will have traveled to Syria, Iran, or North Africa several times in the last couple of years. All of them will be well known as devout Muslims and frequenters of London mosques.
  • Centralized security sucks ass. London has more cameras per capita than any other city in the world. I’m sure they will provide shocking footage for the news sometime in the next few days, but they won’t be worth jack from a law enforcement standpoint, and they obviously had no impact on prevention. All other security measures were heightened for the G8 Summit, and that was also useless. There is only one effective deterrent — an aware and active citizenry. Preferably armed.

So who takes the licks for this? I nominate Syria. They most likely had a part in this, and they have it coming in any event for their shenanigans in Lebanon. It should be a British operation (they have the military capability to take on a tinpot like Syria, as they showed in the Fauklands) and we should simply have their back, like they have had ours the last four years. Push the Ba’athists in Syria over, and Iran may topple on its own. Syria is where we need to go.

Terrorism cannot survive without state sponsorship. It doesn’t matter which state sponsor we take out — every one lessens the chance of something like this happening again.

This is just getting stupid now. The only way to reign these guys in is to pound the hell out of them and make them lose their taste for war. Screw the leftists and their media bitches what we need is a good old fashioned crusade to rid the world of these clowns. Time for a good ol fashoined Italian Pope…….

I got into a “discussion” with these Muslim black guys at the bar. They were addressing each other by Arabic names. I said to one of them “Qul a’udhu bi rabil falaq.” One of them said “Min sharil ma khalaq, what you know about that?” I said ok tell me what you just said. He said he didn’t know. Then I recited the whole surah in Arabic with English translation.

Then (I’m such a jackass) I said “So you’re saying a bunch of stuff and you have no idea what you’re saying. What the point in that?

Haha! They were probably a sleeper cell anyway.

  3. Phelps says:

You should call in on them. I bet they are in on the Ramen thing too.

  4. HMT says:

all we gotta do is just keep feeding them western porn.

“All of them will be well known as devout Muslims and frequenters of London mosques.”

Or be totally unknown as devout Muslims, rather being well known as frequenters of strip clubs. Learn.

“This attack was claimed. The attack, compared to 9/11 standards, was small and unsophisticated.”

That’s untrue, actually. 9/11, this attack (and, for that matter, the embassy bombings [Nairobi, Dar es Salaam]) and Spain all required a significant amount of planning and coordination. Exploding four bombs simultaneously at different places in a city (some underground, some aboveground!) requires some amount of forethought, no?

The attack is smaller in absolute number of casualties, but the aim and quality of the attack in terms of execution is of the same order: The goal is to interrupt infrastructure. Make people afraid of flying, using the subway, using mass transit in general.

“Terrorism cannot survive without state sponsorship.”

Bullshit. The nation-state is obsolete. Want evidence? You can start with the entry-level text “The World Is Flat” by Thomas L. Friedman.

If I wanted to I could get three of my closest friends together and cancel President Bush’s retreat in Scotland. Underscore that I don’t want to. But it’s not lack of state sponsorship that’s keeping me from doing it.

“It doesn’t matter which state sponsor we take out — every one lessens the chance of something like this happening again.”

Unfortunately no. Every image of dead or dying collateral damage increases the chance of something like this happening again.

  7. Mexigogue says:

You mean, like, naked chicks in cowboy hats?

  8. Phelps says:

Well, if they are wearing a cowboy hat, they aren’t really naked, are they?

  9. Mexigogue says:

Jesus Christ as I was typing that I was thinking that a chick in a hat is not technically naked and I wondered if anybody was gonna call me on that but I decided to chance it. I got caught.

“Terrorism cannot survive without state sponsorship.”

It can’t? What specifically does it need state sponsorship for?

  11. Phelps says:

Money and sanctuary. Terrorism is hideously expensive on a personal level. The sorts of people who earn that sort of scratch don’t waste it on terrorism. It also has to have a sanctuary for command and control. The long and short is that without a place where the law enforcement at least turns a blind eye (if not actual support) it can’t survive.

Anybody could have planned this attack is wasn’t that sweet. Mexi, Phelps and I cold get rip-roaring drunk at Leroys and come up with a better more sophsticated plan….Come to think of it some of my most intricate schemes have been hatched at bars

  13. HMT says:

yeah, plans like how to avoid paying the tab.

    and blowing various shit up.

  14. Mexigogue says:

If somebody posted a link that said LEARN on my blog, I believe that person would get choked to death. If nothing else than spontaneously on his own vomit.

What are we gonna do NOW? Why don’t we just put HER in charge?? GAME OVER! GAME OVER!

  16. Phelps says:

You and three of your friends couldnt’t do it. If you had the money, you would screw up and make some mistake somewhere that would get you caught.

As for Atta at the strip bars, he was also at the mosque. The strip bar thing was the last thing that they did before the attack. If you think un-Islamic behavior and mosques are incompatible, then you haven’t been following the Muslim Boys in London.

Exploding four bombs at once with a conspiracy of five people is simple. You need lighters and watches.

Dude, if you haven’t by now reported these people to the Dept. of Homeland Security, as is your duty as a loyal and patriotic American, I’m going to have to call up DHS myself and report you AND them for being in flagrant violation to some clause of The Patriot Act.

I’m not sure which ones, but I’m pretty fuckin’ sure y’all were breaking like a ton of them.

Strategically speaking, Syria needs to go next. I have mentioned before that it is necessary to cover our left flank. It will happen. Mark my words. Maybe the Brits will do it.
