John Kerry is a nub

John Forbes Kerry had this to say:

“If you make the most of it and you study hard and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t you get stuck in Iraq.”

At first glance, it looks like he is slamming the troops in Iraq as people who didn’t make the effort or didn’t have the ability to finish college. At first glance. On second glance, it is also just as plausible that it is a George Bush slam.

So give him the benefit of the doubt.

It was a joke that got misintepreted. Ever happened to you? Happens to me all the time. That doesn’t make Kerry a nub. What makes him a nub is his reaction.

Senator John Kerry issued the following statement in response to White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, assorted right wing nut-jobs, and right wing talk show hosts desperately distorting Kerry’s comments about President Bush to divert attention from their disastrous record:

Yeah. That is the way to… uh… divert attention away from your disastrous mispoken joke.

I’m not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium, or doughy Rush Limbaugh, who no doubt today will take a break from belittling Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s disease to start lying about me just as they have lied about Iraq. It disgusts me that these Republican hacks, who have never worn the uniform of our country lie and distort so blatantly and carelessly about those who have.

  1. One of the guys “lecturing” you is John McCain. Vietnam POW McCain. And a whole fuckton of serving solders, sailors and airmen. In Iraq.
  2. No one is “belittling” Fox or Parkinson’s. Just because we don’t buy his argument doesn’t mean we are making fun of him.
  3. How in the hell do you “lie and distort so blatently” what is on freaking YouTube?

The people who owe our troops an apology are George W. Bush and Dick Cheney who misled America into war and have given us a Katrina foreign policy that has betrayed our ideals, killed and maimed our soldiers, and widened the terrorist threat instead of defeating it.

This is the point that I had to check to make sure that I really was on John Kerry’s site. I thought that Scrappleface or Iowahawk had pulled one over on me.

  1. Bill Clinton championed and signed the Liberation of Iraq act. You are on the Senate Intelligence Committee. If the executive branch was misleading anyone, you were the one that was supposed to catch it.
  2. Katrina is domestic policy. Iraq is foriegn policy. Let me see if I can explain. New Orleans is in America. That makes everything that happens there domestic policy. Iraq is in Not America. It’s that place that you aren’t supposed to color in when you are coloring all the states before juice and cookies. That makes it foriegn policy.

And here is the saddest, saddest part. What was the joke? If you screw off in school and get crappy grades, you might just grow up to be President of the United States? Hell, that isn’t true — because Bush had better grades than Kerry in college.

What a nubsack.

Update: Radley Balko has a similar take, but I have to take issue with this:

Honestly, who’s doing more harm to the troops right now, John Kerry, who muffed a joke intended to poke fun at the president, or the actual president and his party, who’ve made U.S. trops target practice for jihadists while engaging in a foolish, futile war that they’re too politcally cowardly to extricate us from? Hint: October was the bloodiest month for U.S. troops in Iraq in three years.

Hint: The terrorists plan thier attacks to have political impact. They certainly have no significant military impact. If they did, they would be geurillas, not terrorists. That means that the terrorists are killing our troops faster now (and expending thier own lives to do it) because they think it will influence our election.

So who do the terrorists want to win? Why do they want them to win?
