As a followup to this post, I want to give you this graph:

Gasoline prices are cyclical. They go down in the winter months (shaded in blue, November to March.) Until the last winter cycle, at least. Draw your own conclusions.

    Yes, you can. They are variations, not trends. Difference between noise and signals.
