Obama ratchets up the rhetoric on stimulus plan – Yahoo! Finance

Obama this Thursday:

Some critics, he said at Thursday’s retreat, contend the bill “is full of pet projects. When was the last time that we saw a bill of this magnitude move out with no earmarks in it? Not one.”

Ratcheting up the sarcasm, the president said: “So then you get the argument, ‘well, this is not a stimulus bill, this is a spending bill.’ What do you think a stimulus is?”

“That’s the whole point,” he said, as the audience hooted and applauded.

Obama’s “Blueprint for Change”:

Reinstate PAYGO Rules: Obama believes that a critical step in restoring fiscal discipline is enforcing pay-asyou-go (PAYGO) budgeting rules which require new spending commitments or tax changes to be paid for bycuts to other programs or new revenue.

Cut Pork Barrel Spending: Obama introduced and passed bipartisan legislation that would require more disclosure and transparency for special-interest earmarks. Obama believes that spending that cannot withstand public scrutiny cannot be justified. Obama will slash earmarks to no greater than what they were in 2001 and ensure all spending decisions are open to the public.

The Old Boss didn’t try to sneak government-controlled healthcare in under the guise of stimulus.
