    Muslims say the shahada if they think they’re gonna die. In his case I’m a little surprised he said it because these guys clearly are not ruling by Islamic law or even attempting to but I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised. It’s like an American atheist shouting “God help me!” when he’s about to get shot.

    He was probably just saying it out of habit. Same as an atheist that says “bless you” when someone sneezes.
